The Haft Awrang is a compilation of seven masnavi poems and constitutes the major poetical work of Abdul-Rahman Jami (d. 1492) composed in the second half of the 15th century.

The artwork depicts the gift of ducks from a powerful monarch to a pious dervish. The monarch had became a pupil of the holy master in order to save his soul.  But the holy man refused the gifts for in his eyes meaningful gifts could only come from life long devotion.
